What Locals Actually Know

Insights from someone who has spent a decade calling Keystone home. The things the resort brochures never tell you.

Local Perspective

Keystone is Summit County's night skiing capital and its best-kept family secret. Three peaks - Dercum Mountain, North Peak, and The Outpost - provide genuine variety. The grooming here is exceptional (Keystone has one of the best grooming programs in Colorado) and the night skiing until 9pm on Dercum Mountain means you can ski a full day and a full evening. The summit of Outpost at 12,200 feet overlooks a gorgeous high alpine bowl.

The combination of Keystone's early opening (typically October) and excellent grooming makes it a local favorite for early-season skiing before the bigger mountains open. The Snake River flows through the base area and the riverfront village has a pleasant, unhurried energy.
