Wolf Creek gets more snow than anywhere else in Colorado - averaging 430 inches per year, more than twice the national average. The terrain is real (1,600 acres with genuine variety), the prices are reasonable, and the snow quality is extraordinary. Located at the top of Wolf Creek Pass on US 160, it has no resort village - you ski and go back to Pagosa Springs (18 miles) or South Fork (16 miles) for accommodations. This is Colorado skiing without the marketing.
The south-facing Alberta run provides the most consistent deep snow on the mountain - a counterintuitive aspect that somehow collects and holds snow in extraordinary quantities. The backcountry gate access on the north side opens into terrain that is essentially Silverton Mountain quality.

The hot springs at Pagosa Springs are the deepest natural hot spring in the world - genuinely. After a powder day at Wolf Creek, soaking in 130-degree mineral water is transcendent.
